Volunteering with Abbeyfield Belfast

Volunteers have always been vital to Abbeyfield Belfast. Whether you’ve got an occasional hour to help out or can make a regular commitment, you can volunteer in all sorts of ways that make a real difference to our residents.

“I frequently feel that I get more out of volunteering with Abbeyfield Belfast than I put in, I always feel on top of the world after visiting the residents, having talked, reminisced and laughed a lot .”

 Resident, Bell Rotary House

We believe older people deserve meaningful relationships, personal choice and as much control over their lives as possible.  Our volunteers believe that too.  We have volunteers from all walks of life who give up their time to not only help residents but also get involved in various projects all aimed at keeping residents happy and making our Houses fun places to live in.

How you can help

Some of our residents need nothing more than a chat with a friend while others need a little more help, for instance with their shopping or getting to the doctor.  Many volunteers help with marketing events and activities to promote Abbeyfield in the community. You may want to become involved in organising activities and social events or fundraising, you may be an IT fan and could help residents connect with family worldwide using email and Skype.  If you like the outdoors, you could help our ‘green fingered’ residents keep the gardens looking lovely.

Young volunteers

We have several young volunteers from local schools and organisations.  They may be working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award, Queen’s Award or some similar programme and we are delighted to welcome them.  We also provide opportunities for work experience.

There is a wide range of volunteering opportunities and if you think you can help in any way we would love to hear from you.  Please complete the Volunteer Application Form or contact us at the office.

Volunteers are an essential part of the Abbeyfield team no matter how much or how little time you have to give. If you are interested in volunteering, give us a call for more information, or fill out the application form and email to niki@abbeyfieldbelfast.org.uk.  We would love to hear from you.
